Campa Cola Is Back at ₹10. Reliance Just Declared War on Pepsi and Coke.

Campa Cola shut down in the 1990s when Pepsi and Coca-Cola re-entered India. Reliance Retail quietly acquired the brand in 2022 and relaunched it in 2023 at ₹10 for a 200ml bottle, exactly half the price of a Pepsi.

The price point is the strategy. Reliance doesn’t need Campa Cola to compete on taste or brand equity, it needs it to occupy the ₹10 price shelf that cola majors have been trying to exit for years. With JioMart, Reliance Retail outlets, and Smart Bazaar as distribution muscle, Campa doesn’t need to win a brand battle.

It needs to be available, affordable, and good enough. In the 600,000 small towns where Pepsi rarely runs cold, “good enough at ₹10” is the entire product.

Whether Campa sustains remains to be seen. But Reliance just put Pepsi and Coke on notice that margin-driven pricing has consequences.
