Customers Funded Bangalore’s Watch Brand

Bangalore watch company

Bangalore Watch Company, a maker of mechanical timepieces priced between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh, closed a $1.4 million seed round in October 2026 from the one group that had already decided the brand was worth backing: its own customers.

Founded in 2018 by former technology executives Nirupesh Joshi and Mercy Amalraj, the company builds mechanical watches in Bengaluru using materials that include recovered fighter-plane aluminium and proprietary alloys developed in-house. It operates one flagship boutique and ships to more than 30 countries. The seed round drew almost entirely from high-net-worth individuals and family office principals who were already collectors of the brand. The plan is to open in two or three international markets where independent watch collectors are active.

The name carries the strategy. In a category Switzerland has dominated for two centuries, calling your brand Bangalore Watch Company is a declaration, not a description. It signals craft, origin and a refusal to apologize for where the watch was made. That positioning has put the brand on the shortlist for the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve three times, earned it a place at Geneva Watch Days 2026, and produced India's first watch qualified for spaceflight. None of that follows from a name that is trying to sound European.

The transferable lesson is this: in a crowded category, a deliberately provocative name acts as a filter. It repels the buyers who want a Swiss heritage story and attracts the buyers who want something with a different point of view. Those buyers become a community over time. A 30% repeat purchase rate in a segment where loyalty is rare is one sign of that. Customers funding the growth round is another.

The brand does not need to sound like Geneva. It has chosen to sound like itself.
