Meesho Now Has More Active Users Than Amazon India. Nobody in Mumbai Talks About It.

Meesho started as a social commerce app for women resellers in small towns. It pivoted to a full marketplace in 2021, eliminated seller commissions, and went after the 200 million Indian consumers nobody else was designing for.

By 2024, Meesho reported 140 million annual transacting users; more than Amazon India. Its average order value is ₹450. Its typical user is a woman in Gorakhpur or Hubli buying a ₹300 kurti.

Meesho doesn’t appeal to brands that want premium positioning. It’s for brands that want volume, reach, and access to the Indian consumer whose buying power has been consistently underestimated.

The company is approaching profitability and preparing for an IPO in 2025. When it lists, the valuation will remind everyone that Bharat was always bigger than the metro bubble.
